On Google maps you can see that Cross House is on the other side of the main road from The Griffin.

Thank you so much everyone, you have all been very helpful. I'm sure the house must be in the vicinity of those others that show up on the map. I see there a a few 'rectories' marked. The Reverend D. Williams, Rector of Llyswen (St Gwendoline's I think) lived in Llyswen House for a time, and died there in 1855.

You are right that the church at Llyswen is St Gwendoline's.  She is a popular saint around here, having been one of the many daughters of King Brychan Brycheiniog, who gave his name to this area.

Clergy database  http://db.theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/search/index.jsp

Search for William Williams, using drop down menus to select "Diocese - St. Davids" and "Location - Llyswen".

You have the URL for Welsh newspapers on line - try searching for just "Llyswen" and use filters to restrict to periods you are interested in (Llyswen produces 2,298 "hits"). Note - if you search on a key of 2 or more words eg "Llyswen House" wrap the search key in "    ".

Couldn't spot "Llyswen House" on the 1841 Census.
