Fell's of Lanarkshire who lived in Peeblesshire & Ashkirk, Selkirk
« on: Tuesday 24 January 17 19:04 GMT (UK) »
Currently I'm researching my Family on my Paternal Grandfathers side. I've some information on names and years as follows ...
John Scott Fell (1847 Lanark) married (1870 Biggar) Jemima Murray (1845 Peebles Burgh)
they lived in Ashkirk, Kirkhope & Yarrow where their 6 children were born. Agnes Dickson Fell, Marion Bell Fell, William Murray Fell, John Fell, Alexander Fell, Jemima Murray Fell.
Sadly Marion died aged 18, & Jemima aged 7, I only know they are buried in Selkirkshire, but would like to locate them if possible!
I'm happy to share all my research, of which I am looking not only at the Family connections, but their residence, employment and any other interesting facts

Only marked grave at Yarrow is

In loving memory of JAMES WILLIAM BYERS JOHNSTONE who died suddenly on
8th April 1996 aged 54yrs dearly loved husband of ROBINA TAIT FELL

She may actually still be alive, born 1944 in Lanark, married 1966 in Walston.

As Marion was born and died in Selkirk she could be buried in Selkirk Brierylaw, in which case email the council (Scottish Borders) and they will provide details of the lair number. I have a lair map somewhere.

TY 'telmark'
I've not worked forward from the early 1900s therefore not sure if Robina Fell is related to me. I've got a lot of information in 1800's and 1700's which I am currently working on. Marion (aged 18) died 1892, Selkirk, and Jemima (aged 7) died 1896 Melrose. Marion born Ashkirk, Jemima born Yarrow. Their siblings were Agnes, William, John & Alexander. I am hoping when I finish all my research to visit Selkirkshire cemeteries. Thanks again

Gavin I think this is what you are looking for. This is from Brierylaw cemetery selkirk.

"838       In loving memory of JEMIMA MURRAY wife of JOHN FELL who died at Fauhope Mains Melrose"
"20th Oct 1903 aged 58 yrs also their daughters MARION BELL FELL who died at Whinfield Selkirk"
"11th Nov 1892 aged 18 yrs JEMIMA MURRAY FELL who died at Leaderfoot Mill 9th April 1896 aged"
"7 yrs."
They are on the CD obtainable from Border F.H.S. which i transcribed..It has a map to pinpoint the headstone.
Likewise on the Kirkhope Cd James Johnstone/Robina Fell it has the headstone photograph. Kirkhope cemetery is at Ettrickbridgend.
Hope this clears things up.

TY 'telmark', have updated my Tree and noted the cemeteries for visits.

TY Douglas, have correct my Tree to read John Bell Fell.

I don't have a James Bell Fell, cannot find him on the family Census, (mind you I can't find an 1881 census for the family.) and I can't find a Birth/Marriage/Death in the Statutory Records either. Have you any more info for me, TY

Have you any info on John possibly being in the Merchant Navy in 1871, I think Jemima is living alone, expecting their child, married in Biggar. ?

TY pharma T: John Bell Fell is my 2nd Great Grand Uncle
