Parents of James Anderson b.1847?
« on: Wednesday 25 January 17 22:42 GMT (UK) »
Hello.

I am currently researching an ancestor of mine by the name of James Anderson, I can't seem to find any information about his parents (no names, no dates, etc.).

James Anderson was born c.1847 in Bath, Somerset, England.

This is I think his family in the 1881 census:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q271-F6D4

And in 1891:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:WNDH-C3Z

I am currently unsure as to when James died or married.

As always, any help here would be much appreciated!

It was actually though this forum. To be honest, I'm not 100% that James is the right ancestor.

Here is the threat in question: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=761663.0

Did you follow the last suggestion in that previous thread?  If you now have the marriage cert please give all details from it.

As suggested earlier, the marriage certificate will hopefully give his father's name and an address that can be found on a census.

I have just had a quick run through your related post.

I'm afraid without going through the proper procedure backwards buying certs. to confirm names, dates, places, occupations etc. you will find it difficult to progress.

Posting links to who you 'think' are your family will not be known to anyone else either without the documentary evidence pointing you there.

When I asked how you arrived at James being your ancestor I was hoping for a reply along the lines of....

My relation (with relationship) x was the daughter/son of x & y born in date/place.

Then if you were having trouble finding the marriage of x & y we could help.

You have given no indication of any kind of relationship or how you actually think James is your relation?

... There are quite a lot of James Anderson, miners, pop up in the various censuses in that general area, I'm afraid! I chased several different ones to eliminate them from part of my research at one time.
As others have said, unless you expend a small amount on certificates such as the marriage one, which hopefully gives the names of the fathers concerned, and their occupations, you're very unlikely to be able to get anywhere.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)
