Great. That appears to confirm the connection between Henry Slator and Mary (Charlotta) in the 1881 Lambeth census. She is his sister-in-law rather than his sister.
**
Records compiled by Robert Moseley Bryce Thomas about the Thomas family state that Thomas was the son of Henry Slator of London and that Thomas was born in London. He may have got that information from Thomas Slator himself.
Am I (a) doubting Thomas?  ;)
Thanks

Thanks very much Keyboard. I now have the "missing" census records for Mary Charlotta in 1871, 1881 and 1891.
She died in 1907 and there's no mention of a husband or sons in the newspaper article about her funeral.

I found a marriage between a Thomas Slator and a Mary Ann Reed in Q June 1869 in Bolton that I thought would fit. I'll have to explore further.
We're still missing the elusive Thomas Slator.  ???

:) Always check the next available census ie Thomas Slater married the Sarah Critchley and Mary Ann Reed married the James Archer by the looks of it?
It is if a Mary Ann Nightingale ever married Thomas Slater that needs to be located?!

Yes. I'd just deleted that Mary Ann Reed entry, but then I found ...
1881 Census with Mary Ann Hague 36, daughter of John and Sarah Nightingale and two daughters.

In Q June 1866 in Manchester, Mary Ann Nightingale appears to have married Abraham S Hague.  ???
Hmmm.
