Elizabeth Luke of Alverstoke - Marriage and Burial
« on: Saturday 28 January 17 20:02 GMT (UK) »
Would anyone be able to help me find any additional information related to an Elizabeth Luke of Alverstoke?  From other sources, I have the following information:

Marriage - 29 December 1762 to a Lieutenant David Boswell of the 26th Company of Marines.  Her age is given as 19, his as 21; and

Burial - 12 September 1778 in Alverstoke.

In particular, I wonder if there's any chance that her and her husband's parents are named somewhere, and whether her place of burial within Alverstoke is identified.

Thank you!

This baptism is the right date given the age on marriage

Gosport is 1 mile from Alverstoke.

However there are a couple of other Elizabeth Luke's around so not sure how you are going to establish which is the right one
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

The burial will be at St Mary Alverstoke (the parish church). Very unlikely there will be names of parents for this record.

Take a look at this site as it may be worth following up: spurgeonfamily.ca it has -

David BOSWELL born 09 Apr 1739 Edinburgh died 27 Jan 1783
Elizabeth LUKE born 09 Jul 1743 Alverstoke

2 children

The Spurgeon family site has a few errors in it, at least so far as my own research goes.

Regardless, thanks for your help!

Hi, I have been creating my family tree and Lt. David Boswell seems to be my great x 6 grandfather!
