Looking for an obituary
« on: Saturday 28 January 17 22:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am hoping someone can lead me in the right direction to find an obituary and/or the name for the newspapers that would cover the area of Salford, Lancashire.
I an searching for the obituaries of-
John Joseph Fitzgerald b. 26 Dec 1900 d.1981 in Salford
Mary Fry Fitzgerald b. 13 Jul 1907 in Salford d. 1987 in Salford.

I am specifically interested in the Fry family. Mary Fry Fitzgerald's parents were Richard Fry(born and died in Salford 1883-1936) and Beatrice Pickvance. Beatrice and 2 of Mary Fry Fitzgerald's children died on 23 Dec 1940 in the bombings that happened in Salford/Manchester area.
I would like to find out if there are any surviving descendants of this family. The Fitzgeralds had one more child, a daughter born in 1943 but I don't want to post her name hoping she is still alive.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Megan

Unfortunately the daughter born in 1943 has a very common name with no middle initial.  There are other births for similar names, and then several possible marriages in Salford for her.

Do you have her exact date of birth, as then possible deaths for her can be investigated?

Hi,
Unfortunately I have no specific date for her and yes that leads to the problem of finding the correct marriage for her too. That is why I was hoping an obituary for her parents might give me a lead.
This would be a cousin line for me as the first Fry that went to Salford was William Fry born in Rathdowney, Laois, Ireland in 1848 and died in Salford in 1911. He would be the father of Richard Fry.
My Fry line consists of Williams sister Anne, who stayed in Ireland and the families lost touch sometime before or after the war.
Would you happen to know what newspapers might have obits for this area?

(But not yet the later years)

Are you going to apply for her birth certificate?

I will try to contact that newspaper. I might be able to find something in there about the Fry family. Thank you, I really appreciate the help!

I would get the death certificate for Mary who died in 1987 in the hope that her death was registered by her daughter or another relative and then work forward from that as if the death was registered by a relative there will be an address and you could perhaps track forward with electoral rolls.

I would also try to find where they are buried or were cremated as again that might provide some clues.

Looks like the OP hasnt been on for a while... sadly..

be careful about putting your name and all those details online... I would delete your name and ask him to PM you on here...

you will have to write up 3 messages on Roots before you can get a PM from anyone..  hope you have some success.
