Looking for Leah Cowling ( x 2 )
« on: Sunday 29 January 17 13:50 GMT (UK) »
I have extracted the following from the Cornwall OPC site and census records. The location for all events shown as St Agnes.

Leah Cowling baptised 1 Jan 1762.
Leah Cowling/John Letcher married 1803. 7 children born 1807-1821.
Leah Letcher buried 22 Aug 1867, aged 88

Leah Letcher's age as shown on census returns:-  1841 (55- rounded?),  1851 (71), 1861 (78).

I can find no record of the marriage or burial of Leah (1762), nor the baptism or previous marriage of Leah (1780/4). What am I missing?

Thanks, Mabel. That's solved one! (I had trusted that something like that would have been thrown up by surname variations)

you can use the wildcard option on the opc search as well. So searching for cowl% will find both versions and in case there's a variant of Leah, you can put just 'l' or 'le' in the first name box.

Thanks, Osprey. I had been mixing (*) as a wild card and getting nowhere. Now I know why!
