1841
Milton Street
Robert Forshaw   23 born in the county Blacksmith
Elizabeth Forshaw   21 born Ireland
H107/557/2/27/47

I did wonder about that entry. Did his father change his occupation?
On James' 1872 m/c his occ. is Marble Polisher and his father Robert's occ. Farmer

There is this 1841 census Robert Forshaw is a Farmer with a Betty
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQ2G-7XH

Betty is a common diminutive for the name Elizabeth

Thank you all for your information

1841
Milton Street
Robert Forshaw   23 born in the county Blacksmith
Elizabeth Forshaw   21 born Ireland
H107/557/2/27/47

I thought y not born in county

1851 census
3 Bennett Street Liverpool
Elizabeth Forshaw widow washer woman born in Liverpool age 30
John Forshaw scholar aged 5
Mary Evans visitor  washerwoman born in Liverpool aged 19

1861 census
Baptist Street Liverpool
Betsey Forshaw Widow Charwoman age 40
Mary Evans sister single Charwoman age 28

1871
12 Upper Market Liverpool
Elizabeth Forshaw widow no occupation born in Liverpool age 48
Edward Evans brother Labourer born in Liverpool age 38

Think Elizabeth died June quarter 1876 age 51 West Derby but think she would have been 55.

I didn't know Robert died in the workhouse but he did die aged 28 so will enter that

The farmer Robert Forshaw I thought wasn't my Robert as he was born in Burscough not Liverpool this was my logic.

The 1881 census when my John Forshaw was living in Hulme Manchester there are two John Forshaw's of similar age one is the son of the farmer he is a widower and his son in law John Forshaw who is married. RG11 Piece/Folio   3756/7

My John Forshaw seems to have disappeared from 1851 - 1871 then gets married in Manchester.

 ???

Thank you all again for your invaluable help still don't know were I go from here as he was a marble polisher don't know whether they do an apprenticeship for that I thought it was me who just couldn't find the census but you kind people have looked as well.

Eileen

Do you know what happened to James Forshaw?
Baptism: 4 Dec 1843 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
James Forshaw - [Child] of Robert Forshaw & Elizabeth
Abode: Milton St
Occupation: Blacksmith
Baptised by: J G Headlam, Curate

Baptism: 29 Mar 1846 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
John Forshaw - [Child] of Robert Forshaw & Elizabeth
Abode: Bispham St
Occupation: Blacksmith
Baptised by: J G Headlam Curate

heatherjulie that's a very good question, if he didn't die you'd have expected him to
be on the census with his mother Elizabeth & brother John  :-\

1871 census I'm afraid I'm having to concede  ??? I cannot find the elusive
John FORSHAW born 1846 Liverpool occ Marble Polisher Mason.
Also couldn't locate the address 4 Scholes Entry as per his m/c 1872

This looks to be his wife Mary Potter on 1871c - I did a quick look either side of this just in case he was living close by but didn't spot him  ???

1871 RG10; Piece: 4066; Folio: 160; Page: 36
Head Wm D RYDE address Ash(en)h?t Blackley Manchester Lancashire
Mary POTTER single age 26 (1845) Scotland General Servant

This appears to be her death
Mar 1907 Salford 8d 107
Mary FORSHAW age 61 (1846)

If you are looking for John on latest census his surname is transcribed as
ForshaM on An*y, still living in Salford

and this could be his death entry

Mar 1916 Salford vol 8d page 25
John FORSHAW age 70 (1846)

Another avenue to try is the trade directories for 1870,71, 72 etc....

I found 1876 entry on page 235 for
John FORSHAW marble polisher address 25 Phoenix Street Hulme
http://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/cdm/compoundobject/collection/p16445coll4/id/218314/rec/16
but nothing earlier I'm afraid  ???

Have a look at this

I used the search box and entered Schole’s Entry

I'm not sure if this is the right address Slater's 1895 – page 42
Schole’s Entry, Irwell Street, Water Street
