I looked at all the familysearch records for Margaret Anna Cairns, Edwards mother and theres a lot of odd spellings on there. Why Edward is Joannis who knows, but their other son John is also down as Joannes on a record.

Joannis - That could be the Roman catholic baptism names. (St Josephs is a Roman Catholic Church)

Thanks, that explains the names, both boys very similar though 'Joannis' and 'Joannes'.
I need to look into Miles now I think, as I have found the parents of Margareta. They are Patrick Walsh and Elizabeth Ford.
