Reginald James Wendt

Hi,

I am looking for Reginald James Wendt, son of Theodore Ferdinand Wendt and Elizabeth Fairhurst. He first shows up in the 1911 census living at 10 Enfield Road, Ellesmere Port, aged 2.
He is on the passenger list when the family came to Australia in 1919 - mother and younger children.
I have searched freebmd, Cheshire BMD for full name, any Wendt, (and News), Reginald's or James born about the same year (1908 - 1910) but can't find any suitable candidate. The census says he was born in Ellsemere Port but the family did travel - other children born in Yorkshire and Glamorgan.

Does anyone know if any records are missing? Is there any where else I can look?

Can't help with the birth, but do you have his death cert? I'm assuming it is  (from NSW BDM) 35410/1962, Reginald James WENDT, parents Theodore and Elizabeth, registered at Hamilton. It may contain birthplace (although it may just say "England" or something similar depending on what the informant knew).

Added: can you account for all the children registered to Theodore and Elizabeth? Maybe there was a complete change of name involved?

I found some reports in the newspapers which appear to refer to your Theodore Wendt.

From Cheshire Observer 12 Oct 1895 :

Cardiff Bankruptcy Court

Thomas New, late of Ellesmere Port , came up for public examination. The debtor , a clothier , was formerly in business at Cadoxton when he went by the name of Theodore Wendt. He admitted owing £150 , since repaid, and moved to Ellesmere Port where he went by the name Thomas New. He was in partnership with his father and came to Barry in April 1894 where the business failed.

(I noticed that Robert Wendt was born 1894 in Barry Dock which seems to fit with the above.)

A further notice confirming the Receiving Order states :
Theodore Wendt , lately trading as New & Co, Holton Road , Barry Dock , lately trading at Dockland Street , Ellesmere Port, Cheshire , clothier and outfitter.

I've found 2 baptisms for siblings of Reginald James :

Wilhelm Henry Wendt 8 May 1895 son of Theodore Wendt , clothier , and Elizabeth of 126 Holton Road at Cadoxton Juxta Barry
also Theodore Ferdinand Wendt junior baptised at the same time.

This hasn't led to my finding Reginald James unfortunately !

None for Reginald so somehow he got missed for some reason.

Hi,

The family does have the death certificate but I haven't seen it (not directly related - husbands cousin related to the Wendt's through marriage). Apparently death certificate does not contain enough information about birth.

1911 census says they had 12 children but I have only found 10 plus Reginald.

Thank you for the information from the newspapers - Theodore's granddaughters will be pleased - they think he was a bit of a character.
