John Pittblade 1729-1813
« on: Wednesday 08 February 17 13:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm researching ancestors from Whitehaven with the name Pittblade and I've noticed some trees on ancestry have John Pitblade or Pladdy (1729-1813)of Millom as the oldest ancestor.
I can't make the link myself and wondered if anyone out there can help fill in the gap??

Hi Jim and Radcliffe,

The John Pittblade I'm talking about is from Millom and the others are from Whitehaven. The link between the two is what I'm stuck with.
Other trees seem to have the following:

John Pittblade Millom 1729-1814
Alexander Pittblade of Whitehaven 1768-1817
John Pittblade of Whitehaven 1792-1831
Peter Pittblade of Whitehaven 1820-1862

I can't find the link between John and Alexander with actual source evidence.
The name does seem interesting and seems to have developed many variations.I think the origin may be the Scottish Pitblado ?

Thanks for your help

Hi Radcliffe,

This seems to be the link I'm looking for.I can now hopefully make some progress with this line.
If this surname origin is Pitblado, it seems peculiar to one parish in Fife, which might make tracing it back a little easier.

Thanks again for your help:)
