curragh birth certificate 1862
« on: Wednesday 08 February 17 14:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi could anyone please help me locate my Great Grandfather's birth certificate born 24th June 1862 Curragh Kildare. I went to the Lancashire fusiliers museum, they told me John Tait was born possibly to service man Curragh camp Kildare, he was enlisted in Bermuda age 13 and 11 months in March 1875 age 13 and 11 months, which could possibly give his birth year as 1861 but his marriage certificate corresponds to his enlistment for 13 days on HMS impeccable 1896 as a Bandmaster, he also re-engaged 1886 and transferred to permanent staff in 1891. I just can't find any birth records or census information on him or his 3 children. Are the army barrack census separate to civilian census? I have been looking him on and off for over 12 years. Any help in any direction would be appreciated.
Thank you for reading  :)

If born Ireland, Civil registration of births didn't start until 1864.

If Catholic, he might be in the parish records for Curragh Camp:

Find My Past have indexed a 29/6/1862 baptism at Curragh camp for a

Jno Richd Tait son of Jno Tait and Fanny Cooney.

Jno is a recognised shortened script for John (or Johannes in Catholic records), and Richd would be Richard.

Are you saying he was on the Curragh when he transferred to the permanent staff?

Hi Sinann, yes I have tried on Irish, Scottish and English as they must have moved about with the army I think? He also had a brother Joseph who enlisted in Bermuda.
