This has been a very good topic for me to find my relatives, but I am greedy and want to know more :-)
Does anyone know why a baptism of a birth would be recorded twice? I found my great uncle's baptism Joseph Tait as of the 5th July 1863 then on the next page I found again for 24th August 1863? also a different spelling of my Great Great Grandmother's maiden name which could possibly the soundex of her name?
http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634455#page/34/mode/1up
this is the link I think for both pages of registration.
Any explanation would be appreciated.
Thank you

The only difference I see is Fanny as Frances, which would be her correct name.
Chaplain is written at the end of the July record, it's also sort of stuck onto the end of the page, I wonder if the baby was ill, maybe baptised at home by the Chaplain and the second entry is when the baby was brought to the church.
You can't be baptised twice but maybe the priest wasn't aware of the first one.

That is presuming there was an Army Chapline and a Priest.

No scrap the Chapline idea, he signed the end of every page, but it might still be that the child was ill or he just messed up the register.

Thanks sinann, I never thought that he could have been ill. Thankfully he survived.
It was his mothers maiden name which is in the first record and in his brother's and sister's it looks like corvey or cormy yet in the second record in August it is written as Cormi. So I think I'll be able to do a search for her now as Cormy.
Thank you again :)

It's hard to tell the difference between m, n, u  double r, with that man's hand writing.
I think it's most likely to be double r myself but why not try the different combinations on this site.
