Stuck - nothing quite matching up
« on: Thursday 09 February 17 21:28 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone feel like helping me with a bit of detective work for me please? I had a bit of help in chat yesterday but ran out of time and have just been going round and round in circles ever since! None of the records quite seem to match up enough.

Based on this marriage record, which I am 99% certain is the correct one for my family, I have been trying to trace Annie and her father, Daniel, in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census, and Daniel's marriage record, to find out more about the family, including mother's maiden name to go back further. In later census Annie gives her birth year as 1846 and birth place Ilfracombe.

Arthur Henry Miller, bachelor, son of Henry Miller m Annie Tucker, spinster, daughter of Daniel Tucker on 3 Sep 1865 at St Clement, Bristol
Williams - Abergavenny/Cardigan
Morris - Cardigan
Penfold - Pagham/Hampshire
Mitchell - Sittingbourne
Matthews - Sittingbourne
Everard - Braintree
Lowe - Kidderminster
Giles - Kidderminster
Sadler - London
Miller -Wiltshire/Mountain Ash
Bracher - Wiltshire
Tucker - North Devon

If she is correct about place and date of birth, this could be her from Freebmd. Barnstable was the registration district for Ilfracombe

Births Dec 1846
Tucker    Ann
Barnstaple    10   34

Then using the GRO site her mother's maiden name was GEEN

TUCKER, ANN       GEEN
GRO Reference: 1846  D Quarter in BARNSTAPLE UNION  Volume 10  Page 34

ADDED: Possibly not, as there is a marriage for a Sarah Geen Sep 1838 Barnstable, and on the same page a William Tucker.

There's a Daniel Tucker in Morthoe nr Ilfracombe, with wife mary. Amongst their children is an Ann, but she's b c1841

This one looks most likely to me but it's not great is it?!

I have just cross referenced every Ann Tucker birth in Barnstaple to work out possible maiden names with the names of various siblings on cenus entries but none quite match.  I wondered if I was missing something.

Is that this family in 1851?  HO107 Piece number   1893 Folio   96 Page   13

Church Hill, Ilfracombe, Barnstaple, Devon

Daniel   Tucker   58      Ag Lab   Devon
Mary   Tucker      38                      Devon
Ann   Tucker      10                      Devon
Eliza   Tucker             4                      Devon
Daniel   Tucker     0                           Devon

How old was her husband, perhaps if she was older than him she told a little white lie about her age?

I think it is same family - in 1841 it says Daniell Tucker,

Annie's husband Arthur Miller was born 1844 so that theory might make sense.

Possible that Daniel and Willam have their ages the wrong way round as they are out of order?
