Royal Navy 1900
« on: Tuesday 26 July 05 23:38 BST (UK) »
Interested in trying to find the name of a Royal Naval ship - HMS Ieat?  My Great Great Uncle Robert Johnston was married in 1899.  At the time he was a Sailor in the Royal Navy.

Hi Glenavy and Welcome!

What was the name of the ship again? was that a typo or is that the real name of the ship ? Try this site and see if there is anything at all close to the name you remember :)

Do you have any other information apart from his wedding ?

Be more than happy to help if I can - but need a little bit more to go on!!

Regards

Annie

Hi Anne,

All I have is that my Great Aunt Margaret Gibson Lindsay, married Robert Johnston on 7 Jan 1899, and the 1901 census shows her as a widow.  No "current" desendants knew about this marriage.  The marriage certificate gives Roberts address as HMS I***. It is badly smudged but looked like Ieat.

Trying to find a bit more about Robert.

Sorry not much help

Hi Glenavy!

Any chance you could post the marriage cert on the part that gives the name of the ship? maybe we could work it out - "fresh eyes" and all that  :P

So Glenavy

D'you think that Isis could be the name on the marriage certificate?

Annie

If I were you - I'd try finding the history of the ship in those years - did the ship go anywhere where there was fighting - was it used for anything else - Just see what you can find out and post what you find and I'll keep looking - if you think it is ISIS  :P
