PARRY family Anglesey Owen/John - help please!!
« on: Saturday 11 February 17 08:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,
Literally tearing my hair out on this one and wonder if anyone could assist please in solving this part of the Parry family tree.
I cannot seem to find anything that matches up either before 1901 or after 1901 for John Parry.
The only confirmed entries for anything I can find on him are his marriage certificate which states as follows:

John Parry (21), bachelor, fitter’s labourer, son of Owen Parry, collier, of 162 Oxford Street, Pontycymer married Mary Ann James (21) spinster, daughter of William James, colliery overman, of 3 Church Street, Blaengarw at Register office, Bridgend on Thu April 18 1901

I have also found him on the 1901 census just prior which shows him aged 22 (I think we can forgive 1 year) but if this is the right one he is working as a Blacksmith when only a month later when he gets married he's a fitter's labourer. There is an Owen Parry (Collier) (born 1850/1851) with him and he address is the correct one - 162 Oxford Street in Pontycymer (Llangeinor) so this must be John Parry.  Owen is with what seems to state Catherine as his wife (born 1852/1853) and there is a Henry Parry (aged 19) but listed as a Boarder and maybe unrelated.

Jumping to 1911 I do find M.A.Parry (Mary Ann) living at 2 Church Terrace, Blaengarw with her parents (William and Mary James) which matches from the marriage and her status is married for 10 years which also matches and that they have 2 children one of which is Henry William Parry (born 1901).

On Henry Parry's marriage certificate in 1922 the only other reference to John Parry is that he is listed as Henry's father but that he is deceased and that his occupation was a Coal Hewer.

What happened to John Parry either preferably before 1901 so I can trace the family back or worse case after 1901 as I am finding nothing that matches up  ??? ??? ???

Thanks
Phil

Looking at the Henry who was a boarder Henry Parry in the household in the 1901 census, assuming he could be related, he is married, living at another address on the 1911 census in Pontycymmer. He was born in Llaneilian Anglesey. If you look at the 1841 census for Owen Parry born 1840 there is an entry for one born in Llaneilian (transcribed as Llanelian) to William & Mary both born 1806, with other children, John. Hugh, William (a copper miner) and Margaret (Owen being youngest). this area is the  Amwlch area. Worth looking at this.

Thanks Sam
I have just noticed though that I've got my birth years mixed up for Owen and Catherine - They would have been born Owen (1850/1851) and Catherine (1852/53) - not in the 1840's as per my original post.  Apologies must have been still half asleep!
I've amended the main thread now  :)

Catherine Parry Wife 32 1849 - Amlwch, Anglesey
Henry Parry Son 8 1873 Scholar Anglesey
Ann Parry Daughter 6 1875 Scholar Anglesey
John Parry Son 4 1877
Ellen Parry Daughter 1880

Edward Parry Brother In Law 49 1842 Coalminer Anglesey

There are births that match a mother as Jones and possible marriage:-

10 Sep 1872 at Aberffraw - Owen Parry of Gadfa, miner, and Catherine Jones  of Cerrig-y-??
Groom father - Henry Parry, miner
Bride father - John Jones

The births are on the new GRO index - https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp - You need to register

Difficult to know if the correct mother's name but looks reasonable, given the possible marriage.

There is 1861 which would match details of 1891

1861 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7GJ-LFX

Looks like they were brothers

Same family 1851 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGB8-MQ2

Going by the address on the marriage cert for Owen and Catherine, I think this is the Jones family, at Cerrig Bleiddia/u?, children are b same place as father, but children have been given mothers pob.
