Marriage Clara Matilda Aldous and William Sanders
« on: Sunday 12 February 17 01:49 GMT (UK) »
Looking for a marriage for Clara Matilda Aldous and William Sanders in about 1878 in possibly Kingston or Croydon.
Clara Matilda Aldous was born in 1857 in Bermondsey, Surrey and was the daughter of George Aldous and Margaret Kitchiner.
William Sanders was born in about 1850 in Brighton, Sussex and was the son of Ellen Sanders.
On the 1911 census this record has that they have been married 33 years so 1878.
I have searched but have not been able to find a marriage.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Pauline

Best I can find for Clara is:

December qtr 1878
Birmingham Registration District     vol 6d, page 298

Aldhous, Clara
+ Grooms on the same page +
Collins, William
Harbridge, Joseph

By he way, the question on the 1911 census asks for the number of COMPLETE years the marriage has lasted? ;D
So a marriage of 33 years would indicate the wedding should be in 1877? Or early 1878.

Just adding this for any others searching:
1881 census shows Clara & William as husband and wife, with William (2) and Beatrice (0).
RG11/833/90/58
Clara's birthplace is given as Borough, Surrey.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Just a thought if William Sanders was illegitimate perhaps his mother later married a Mr Collins and he became known as William Collins.

Or they never married at all.

Hi all
Thanks very much for looking. It appears Clara and William did not marry. They went on to have 11 children so maybe they never found the time.

I have found William living with his mother Ellen and brothers and sisters on the 1861 and 1871 census. His mother is a widow on the 1861 census and I have not found the family on the 1851 census. His father is possibly Thomas born in 1809 and died in 1859.

Thanks all for your help
