Temple family Manchester Ship Canal
« on: Monday 13 February 17 08:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm doing some family tree research and ground to a halt with one line.
Family stories say this Temple family was something to do with the Manchester Ship Canal and lived in the Wilmslow area.
I've searched online but with no success.Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello,

Is Temple her married name or maiden name? Do you have her on any census or certificate?
Searches don't seem to show her or a Temple family in Wilmslow.

Hi Heywood,

She married in 1923 aged 50 and the certificate has her as a spinster. The spaces for father and fathers occupation have been left blank and her occupation says housekeeper.Address is the Compton Hotel, Liverpool.
From the 1939 register, she was born in 1875.That is absolutely everything I have.

It looks as if she might have died, 4th Q, 1944, Liverpool South vol 8b, p 99
Nellie Davey, aged 70.

I've done searches on just her first name (with variations) and can't find a fit on the censuses  - from Salford to Liverpool.  Also looked at Wilmslow baptisms.

Who were the witnesses to the marriage?

The only Nellie Temple I can find born 1875 appears in 1891 and 1911 first as a servant and second as Assistant housekeeper to an Elizabeth Bradbury in Drayton in Hales, Shropshire. On both occasions pob is given as Market Drayton.

I think the Manchester Ship canal might link up with the Shropshire Union canal somewhere in the Cheshire/Wirral area*. The Shropshire Union canal does run by Market Drayton.

* Added - Ellesmere Port- Frodsham can't follow further
