A judicial separation is not the same as a divorce. They remained married, he just had no claim on her or anything belonging to her. They were not officially free to re marry.

Thanks for that very useful information from Kay99 and emeltom. Interesting to see that in the 1891 census they are both recorded as single!!
Burt, Cockrill, Craske, Debenham, Double, Grimwade, Grimwood, Hilder, Mayhew, Ray. All from  West Suffolk around the Bury St. Edmunds area.
