Searching by address?
« on: Thursday 16 February 17 21:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello all
I am still on the trail of my great grandfather Robert Paterson's brothers and sisters.  Robert was the oldest of seven.  I have now found the death record for his youngest sister, Isabella Mary Maggie Annie Paterson who was born in 1875 and died unmarried in Haddington in January 1961.
What is interesting to me is that the informant of her death was her niece, whose home address was the same as the deceased's. The niece is only identified as E. Paterson.  The thing is, I have no record of any of Isabella/Robert's brothers having a daughter in Haddington.
Can anyone say if there is a way of finding the head of household via the address? I'm thinking along the lines of electoral rolls or telephone directories for the 1960's, but don't really know where to look.
Thanks in advance  :)

Hi Bev

A check of the electoral rolls would likely be a good place to start. They will not be available online to search though.

Why don't you contact and make enquires here www.johngraycentre.org/about/archives/

That looks like a fantastic resource, thank you Monica.  I think I will be spending a lot of time on that site :)
I think I may have found the answer to my puzzle in the meantime.  I found the death record of another brother, John who died in 1945.  His residence at the time of death was the same as in 1961, and the informant was again his niece Noeleen E. Paterson.
I know from the census that John, Isabella and Noeleen were all living together in 1911 (Noeleen having been orphaned a couple of years previously), though at a different property.  It's just a guess but I reckon that Noeleen may have used her middle name (Elizabeth).
Hopefully I will be able to confirm this from the link you have provided.
Thanks again
Bev
