Frederick Durant
« on: Friday 17 February 17 21:39 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any information on Frederick Durant, born 1889 in Portsmouth. Married to Louisa Pearce. They had a daughter but I can,t find her name. Think they went to live in London as he worked at the Woolwich Arsenal in the 1920,s

Hi Grampy 1

Marriage was in 1913.

I can only see two possible sons in Portsmouth on FreeBMD:

Births Sep 1915
Durant    Donald F    Pearce    Portsmouth    2b   675

Births Dec 1916
Durant    Jack    Pearce    Portsmouth    2b   703

The only female Durant/Pearce was born way up in Doncaster.

Births Jun 1919
Durant    Joyce A    Pearce    Doncaster    9c   1306

Regards
Giggsy

Frederick is in Portsmouth in 1939, along with Donald and a Charlotte Durant b c1890. As there's a birth reg for a Louisa Charlotte Pearce in Portsea in 1890 I that may be his wife

Thanks for the reply all the information is helpful. Fred and Louisa's marriage in 1913 is pretty certain. Can't find anyother info on children. My father (died 1998) told me that  Uncle Fred worked at Royal Arsenal armament factory in South London probably in WW1 and the 1920's. He told me he had a cousin (Female) and they lived in South London.

Hi,

Just for the purpose of elimination, I think that Joyce A DURANT was the daughter of,

Marriage
James H DURANT   Sep Q 1914    Doncaster    9c 1634
Lottie PEARCE  Sep Q 1914    Doncaster    9c 1634

I can see James H, Lottie, Joyce A and  a son travelling from South Africa to Doncaster in 1924.

Regards,
Daisy

Thanks for that Daisy! I didn't think it likely, but you have to chuck in what you find 'just in case'!

"He told me he had a cousin (Female) and they lived in South London".

Did your father have any other uncles or aunts that this female cousin may have belonged to?

Thanks to you all for your help. I know I've got the right Frederick and Louisa. My dad may have got mixed up. I know they had a child, it must have been Donald. Incidentally, my dads name was Donald!
