SMITH of Sloothby & Willoughby
« on: Sunday 19 February 17 17:56 GMT (UK) »
Well I have confirmed the first John SMTH in my family (my 3xGGF).   :'(
Investigations would suggest he is the 1821 s/o William & Mary SMITH of the hamlet of Sloothby, whose many children were baptised at Willoughby St Helena. William looks like the 1788 s/o Samuel & Susanna, both of whom died in Sloothby in 1841 & 1839 respectively, being buried at St Helena. I haven't either marriage that I feel confident in yet.
William & Mary had some interesting children's names including Highley, Salome & Solomon which may be clues to local family connections. Samuel may be the 1760 s/o Solomon & Elizabeth, consequently.
I would like to hear from anyone recognising this family to exchange notes. There are a couple of other Sloothby SMITH families who may be related (for eg. a William & Ann). I have just started out on this new trail and have exhausted the usual sources such as Ancestry, Familysearch & FreeREG.

Admin - This post can be deleted. Thanks. I got confused between Willoughby and Silk Willoughby, which are in different areas of LIN.

Update: This thread is no longer applicable as John SMITH was an alias used by John BACON of the Scots Willoughby. Now proven beyond all doubt by multiple DNA results.
