Can't find grandmothers grave
« on: Monday 20 February 17 19:53 GMT (UK) »
My maternal grandmother was born in 1894 down south, died in Clitheroe Hospital, Clitheroe, Lancashire in 1969. I was 19 at the time but for some reason none of my cousins (younger and older) attended the funeral. How do I go about finding out if she was actually buried or cremated, and where. I have tried the town she lived in prior to going in hospital (Gt Harwood), Clitheroe where she died and the two larger towns in the area, Blackburn and Accrington to no avail. Stumped, not to mention quite upset, as none of us who remain can understand why we didn't attend - is there something that I'm not aware of that I can do. If not where do I go from here - thanks in advance

Hello and welcome  :)

Try Lancashire OPC burial  - I tried a random surname as you don't mention her name
and quite a few came up for the year 1969

Firstly welcome to Rootschat.

Then, you've got a precise location for your grandmother's death.  Perhaps you could try Ribble Valley Borough Council who appear to oversee the general area.  A definitive date of death and address may help your enquiries.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I can see her 1917 m/c on Anc*y to William - was his death registered in Kensington in 1935?

Is it possible she may have been buried with him?

Ah! Probably didn't like the Lavinia as she always used Emma. Could you tell me what the 74 Clitheroe refers to?
Can't think that she would have been buried in Kensington but it is worth a try - many thanks

There is a tree on Ancestry that has her date of death as 26 January 1969. That`s another step to finding her.
