Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what uniform John is wearing ? Army ? And maybe what period ? Pre-1900 ?
And if possible a little restoration.

Not sure if this is British Army but if so the lanyard moved to this shoulder in the 1920's ( dates vary slightly depending on Regt. but around 1924 ).

Jim1: I was told that this is my gr-gr-grandfather, who died in 1900 aged  57/58.
This man looks quite young to me (in his 20's ?). So if it is my gr-gr-grandfather it should be a photo from the 1860's   Not possible ?

He was in the Royal navy (according to census 1871) listed as Private Rms I (what does that mean) ?
Haven't been able to find him in the census 1861. He was born 1842 in Chigwell Essex.
