Census help needed
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 17:03 GMT (UK) »
Good afternoon

I have become stuck tracing 2 people from Cambridgeshire in the census records and ultimately going a generation back to discovering their parents.

They are as follows

Henry Marshall born c1821, in one census he gives his place of birth as Whittlesey Cambridgeshire, he can be found with his wife Elizabeth Mary Marshall (nee Flowers) they had a daughter Martha Marshall in 1846 in Whittlesey, I just can't seem to find the names of Henry's parents.

Matthew Pitts born Cambridgeshire in 1843. married Frances Fryatt and had a son John William Pitts who was born 1868 in Friskney Lincolnshire.
Any information on his parentage again would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Jason

The marriage certificates would name their fathers

Hi Rosie,

I was hoping to locate them on the census records as it's possible I've over-looked them before spending money on the certs, obviously sometimes there is no avoiding this

Many thanks

Jason

There is a Henry Marshall in Whittlesea in 1841 age '20' so could be him but he is not with family
HO107 /78 Book 12 f5 p4

There is another with possible parents William & Elizabeth but he is 16.

Matthew Pitts gives his age as 40 on 1881, making his birth around 1840-41. Fits a Matthew on the censuses, place of birth Southery. In 1851 he is with his father William in Littleport.

Think this could be his baptism, although there is not a birth reg to match

Matthew Pitts
Baptism    5 Apr 1839, Southery
Father:    William Pitts, labourer
Mother:    Mary Ann Pitts

Anthony Pettit is with wife Fanny on 1871, so that's a different Miss Fryett from Mrs Pitts. The Pitts childrens' mmn is recorded in various ways, including Fright and Fryatt
