DUBBERLY, Louisiana
« on: Thursday 23 February 17 11:26 GMT (UK) »
Hello, does anyone have any information regarding HENRY DUBBERLY, who gave his name to the town when it was founded in 1885? How long had his family been in the state, and did they come originally from the UK? Thanks

Thank you; it may well be, he's certainly buried in the right place, and came into his mother's money at about the right time. I'm actually researching my father's family (Duberley) who have been in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire since at least the 15th century, but we don't know if any emigrated or if the similar surnames are just a coincidence. I shall now pursue his father, Allen Dubberley, and see what he got up to!

There's at least one online tree back to 1600s on Family Search (submitted so needs to be verified)-

Thank you so much for this - it looks possible that a Duberley made it from Ross on Wye, England to Virginia sometime in the early 18th century. Obviously I will have to verify this, but it also mentions an an article -'The Douberly-Dubberly Paper Trail' that I might try to track down.
