Missing names from Ocean Arrivals, Form 30A, 1919-1924 Canada
« on: Friday 24 February 17 20:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi I don't know if any one can help, but I have been searching the above archives to look for my grans family (Agnes, Lizzie, Martha, Margaret & John McGowan). I can see from other resources that they left Glasgow in 1923 to Canada, I think Quebec but not sure. However I cant seem to find any McGowan in the above archive, where it should be there are gaps, does anyone know if there are any other resources for this info or am I just missing it in the archive.

Thanks

Hi and thanks for the reply,

I have just looked at the index of surnames on the archive site, the name McGowan appears in the index but the scanned microfilm does not contain any docs relating to names begginig with McGo it jumps from McI to McGr. the item I was looking at is

http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/mass-digitized-archives/ocean-arrivals/pages/item.aspx?EntryName=McElroy%2c+Agnes+-+McGrath%2c+Roy&PageId=3862319

Ocean Arrivals, Form 30A, 1919-1924
Entry Name:
McElroy, Agnes - McGrath, Roy
Volume number: t-15120

As I say I was wondering if I missed out on the index or something.

Thanks

Thanks Rosie,

Do you have a link to where you got that info, They did return not long after leaving as we were told that my Grans dad died just after they arrived. She spoke about they were going to split up and fostered out but her mum got enough money to return.

Thanks

That is very puzzling!!  The index for that reel says that last name should be Roy McGrath, and it is actually Mary McGill.  The next reel begins with Sarah McGrath.  There doesn't appear to be anything between the McGill and McGrath names.

I had a look at Ancestry (free search, I don't have a current sub) in their Form 30A records.  No McGowans at all.  They have some MacGowans and Magowans, but no McGowans.   If your McGowans were filed in an odd spot on the LAC microfilm, they should still come up with an Ancestry name search.  My guess is that they are missing - or they would show up on Ancestry.

Had a look for Roy McGrath on Ancestry's Form 30A collection too.  He doesn't show up either.  The only McGraths who show are from Sarah onwards (first initial S, T, etc to W).
