Who is the Mother of Margaret POLLOCK? Seeking Information.

My forefather Alexander Pollock was born approximately 11 February, 1822 in Irvine, North Ayrshire and died in Airdrie on 6th January, 1879. His wife Isabella Anderson was born approximately 1821 in Old Monkland and died in New Monkland on 9 April, 1889.

I believe Alexander Pollock adopted Isabella Mcarthur Alexander (b. 1844/45), Isabella Anderson's daughter from a previous marriage to William Alexander. However, records show that Alexander and Isabella also had another daughter, Margaret Pollock (b. 1844/45), who was the exact same age as Isabella Mcarthur Alexander, their other daughter. This would imply that Isabella Anderson Pollock is not the biological mother of Margaret Pollock. Who is Margaret Pollock's Mother?

Subsequently, I am trying to find out if Alexander Pollock was married prior to his marriage with Isabella Anderson. Furthermore, who is the biological mother of Margaret Pollock? Did Alexander and Isabella both have children from previous relationships (Isabella & Margaret) when they were married?

Have you checked for a marriage for Margaret Pollock to see who she names as her mother on her marriage cert?

The 1861 says that only Isabella is a step daur but have you checked the original census?
What does the 1851 say ahout Margaret and Isabellas relationship to Alexander?

Initiial thought is that Margaret and Isabella may be twins.

Margaret Pollock married a John Shearer 28/10/1861 Airdrie (New Monkland) - both stated they were 18 - her address is 72 Johnston Street where the family lived on 1861 census and her parents are given as Alexr. Pollock, Iron Miner and Margaret nee Anderson (deceased).

I'm deducing that Margaret and Isabella Anderson were sisters. When Alexander's wife, Margaret Anderson died, he married her sister, Isabella. Together they raised Margaret Pollock jnr. (daughter of Alexander & Margaret Pollock), and Isabella (Alexander) jnr. (daughter of William Alexander & Isabella Anderson).

What is the best source to find out if Margaret and Isabella Anderson were sisters? I am wondering if William Alexander also died prematurely or if Isabella divorced him?

Sorry, I am very new to this and I would love any support and feedback.

Best source would be their death certs. providing the informants of both knew those details of parentage.

I'm deducing that Margaret and Isabella Anderson were sisters. When Alexander's wife, Margaret Anderson died, he married her sister, Isabella. Together they raised Margaret Pollock jnr. (daughter of Alexander & Margaret Pollock), and Isabella (Alexander) jnr. (daughter of William Alexander & Isabella Anderson).

I have just realised the death of Margaret was pre statutory records i.e. this may be hard to establish.

Nothing in this can say whether or not Isabella & Margaret were related/sisters.
