Lost Parents: Elizabeth Rosewarne abt. 1515 - abt. 1547
« on: Saturday 25 February 17 20:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi There!

I am tracing my Cornish family history and have hit a stump in the tree with regards to Elizabeth Rosewarne (abt. 1515 to abt. 1547).

Ancestry trees have said that she married John Chellew 1515-1540 but I can find no marriage date nor information and it therefore gets very complicated and I need some clarification.

The complication is that on Ancestry trees Elizabeth 'becomes' Beatrix Rosewarne (no citations but the same birth and death dates) but... Beatrix married John Glasson. I have consulted Vivian's Cornwall Visitations and there is Beatrix (1520-1547) daughter of  John Rosewarne and Ann St Aubyn but there is no Elizabeth on the tree as a daughter.
So who is Elizabeth's parents? Was Elizabeth another name for Beatrix? Did she therefore marry twice?

Henry Chellew: The child of the Elizabeth and John Chelew marriage that I am also interested in is Henry Chellew 1540 - ?. He  had at least 4 children, Grace, John, Elizabeth and William, but I cannot find a wife. these children are also duplicated as being the children of not Henry but a Simon Chellew.

I realize this is 400years ago but it is driving me nuts to have gone back so far and the fact that there are resources and records available that I can't sort this out for myself.

Can you help?

Thank you
Kim

Hi Kim

You have managed to get a long way back!

You will have realised that you are looking at a period before many Parish Registers have started or survived. Can you tell me what evidence you have for your Elizabeth Rosewarne please so that I understand your starting point? Have you located any wills that may help with your search?

Yes, Kim...

Just started to research the Chellew linage and came across your information. John Chellew and Elizabeth Rosewarne were my 14th Great Grandparents. Would be very interested in discussing their ancestry with you. My complete Chellew ancestry can be found on ancestry.com. Here's hoping I hear from you soon.

Hi Jack,

I am so Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. How fascinating!

I posted my query a while ago so my memory is a tad vague as to how I got to travel so far back and the circumstances around it all. With this in mind please forgive me if I need a refresher.

I would love to learn more and it is very generous of you to offer to share.

Kind Regards
Kim

I can't help with anything that far back, I'm afraid, but are you people related to Thomas Rosewarne [b. abt 1832 in Gwinear, Cornwall] who emigrated to the United States in about 1882 with his wife Olivia Martin and his children?

Hi Erato

At this point in time the answer is no. I am not sure if I am related to the Rosewarnes at all and they don't appear on my tree until 1515 :-[ This may change however  ;D

Have a great day

Kim..

I have information on both John Chellew (1515-1540) and his wife Elizabeth Rosewarne (1518-1547). They had two sons, one of which was Simon Chellew (1533-1579) whose wife was Jane Langmaid (1535-?). John's father was John Chellew (1498-?) I do not have information on his wife's name.

As far as Elizabeth Rosewarne her parents were John Rosewarne (1495-1545) and Ann Viscountess Atwood (1490-1543).

Hope this helps,
Regards
