Hi,

I am looking for any information about my Great-grandmother Elizabeth Wilson. My personal searches have not been very successful. In time, I hope to be more proficient in my search abilities. Therefore, I require some assistance please.

The information I have so far:

Elizabeth Wilson (1888-1971)
DOB: November 7th, 1888 - 1 Fountainwell Road, Glasgow. Scotland.
Father: Andrew Wilson (Occupation: Hammerman)
Mother: Eliza McCartney

Elizabeth Wilson migrated to Australia when she was approximately 18 years of age (1905-1906?)

Elizabeth Wilson married James Martin (1890 - 1979) in 1913 in Brisbane, Queensland. Australia.

Elizabeth and James Wilson's children: Florence Elizabeth Martin (1922-living); Heather Joan Martin; Edith Martin and possibly others.

Information pertaining to Elizabeth's passenger listing to Australia and any records relative to her family heritage in Glasgow, Scotland would be appreciated. Any Australian records would be much appreciated too.

Andrew Wilson Married Eliza McCartney 1878 – Kelvin, Glasgow

I’m not sure if this is the correct family but it seems to fit.

1881 Dwelling: 4 Millerbank St, Glasgow
Andrew 24, Elizabeth 23, both born Ireland + Mary age 1 born Glasgow
Andrew’s Occupation Railway Labourer, he might have changed jobs in the next 10 years?

1891 St Rollox, Glasgow, Lanarkshire - 644/6 77/ 9 – would need to see original.
ANDREW  WILSON age 34 & ELIZABETH WILSON 31
 Children – Mary Jane 11, Andrew 8 & Elizabeth 2

Same family I came up with and the 1891 census also has a Sarah McCartney age 21 born Ireland a visitor with the family ..

Assuming you have the birth certificate for Elizabeth Wilson ? it should show the marriage date for her parents ..
If this is the same family they are still at the same address in the 1901 census 9,Fraserbank Street St Rollex Glasgow

Andrew Wilson 46 born Ireland occupation boltmaker
Eliza 44,born Ireland
Mary 21,Andrew 18,John 17,Robert 15,Elizabeth 12,Maggie 10,William 7,Joan 4,Sarah 2,
All children born Glasgow ...Not having much luck with passenger record

Andrew was a Hammerman at St Rollox railway works which was adjacent to Fountainwell, a semi-skilled job & a wee step up from a labourer. This was probably in the Blacksmiths Shop, my own grandfather was a Hammerman there around the same time! 

 This was the Caledonian Railway Workshops, known as the Caley & still in business on a much reduced scale.

There is this record for a Miss Eliz Wilson departure date 7 July 1904 Liverpool age 17 going to Sydney
Occupation domestic on the Uk departures ship Afric
Then on the Victoria Australia Assisted Passenger lists arrival 19 August 1904 ship Afric her age is down as 15 ..Not much to go on but thought I would mention it just incase

Thanks for the marriage and census records Colin & Rosie. I noticed in 1881 Andrew and Elizabeth are listed on the census records as 24 & 23 years old (1 year age gap); in 1891 Andrew and Elizabeth are listed as 34 & 31 years old (3 year age gap). A typo perhaps?

Rosie, I do have Elizabeth Wilson's birth certificate and her parents marriage dates do correlate with the information you and Colin provided - "Andrew Wilson Married Eliza McCartney 1878 – Kelvin, Glasgow".
