Sarah Masterson
« on: Monday 27 February 17 11:50 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for more info on Sara(h) Masterson is my maternal Grandmother, she died in 9Th September 1965, Ballybrack, Dublin.

I am uncertain of her birth date, but reckon it must be 1890's to 1900's

She was married to Lancelot Allen, they had Benjamin (Benny), Eileen, Lancelot, Catherine (Peggy), Jimmy, Sarah (Sheila) and Elizabeth (Betty, my mum).

There is some story about her dad being in the British Army serving in Malta, either for her birth or for her early years.

As far as i can tell She does not appear on the Irish 1901 or 1911 census.
I cannot find a birth record in Ireland for her.

Lancelot Allen married Sarah Masterson in 26 Dec 1917 in the Church of St Andrew, South Dublin.

I would be delighted with any help finding her in UK births/Army births (Malta?)

John

Had a look at British National Armed Forces Births & British Nationals born Overseas on findmypast, but Sarah's not listed. It's not comprehensive though, not all chaplains made the returns (as I know to my cost  ;)).

Is this in England? Perhaps a place for you to look in 1911? As you know we can't do England/Wales 1911 lookups for you but there is a free index.

Do you not have a more accurate indication of her age from the death certificate? From Christine's marriage entry find, she is of full age in 1917 - so born before 1896.

Josey,

No exact age but, like you, I surmised that she was mid 20's when she started having children (in the 1920's) making her mid to early 1890's

Still cant find where she was born though

Many thanks

John

Married: Mary Brennan at Suncroft, Co. Kildare, 6 Aug 1887.
So if this is the marriage, Sarah probably born late 1887 - 1888. She may have lied about being of full age in 1917.

Gosh, that hospital was huge!!
