Cappello Nevio WWII Italian POW in Presteigne POW Camp n. 48
« on: Tuesday 28 February 17 15:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello everybody. I'm writing from Italy.
My grandfather has been detained as a POW from 1941 till 1946 in POW Camp n. 048 which I recently found out was located in Presteigne.
The camp was situated in Slough Lane near Hill Farm and is now a small private housing site.
My grandfather was a barber and I know that, in addition to the work the prisoners had to do in the fields and so on, he used to go from farm to farm to cut hair and beards and he got paid with eggs, vegetables etc. It helped make the captivity a bit easier and sweeter for him and all of his fellows.
I'm looking for any information about the camp and any story about that period in Presteigne.
Who knows if someone will remember this young Italian prisoners who cut hair at that time!
Thank you very much if someone will be able to help!

Cari saluti
