GRO references
« on: Wednesday 01 March 17 15:34 GMT (UK) »
My great Grandfather, William Thomas Thompson, Born 25/04/1852 Goudhurst Kent (Birth certificate held). Married 13/12/1874 Ivyhurch Kent to Emily Foord (Marriage certificate held). Buried 06/01/1876 Brenzett Kent age 23 (Parish register entry No 321 Page 41 copy held). I am unable to find a GRO reference in order to get a death certificate. I wish to find out the cause of death at such a young age.

Romney Marsh would appear to be the likely registration district.
There is this one -
March 1876 Romney M. 2a 617
Thomset, William
age 23

Welcome from me too.

I have checked the full GRO index and surname definitely Thomset

I see his stepfather was Charles Bennett - is it possible there has been some error with the 2 surnames??

There is no William Thomset in Kent in 1871 so I would go for that death cert

Using the GRO online facility - the death is definitely registered as Thomset.  When I used Thompson it showed no trace

WOW What a quick response. Thank you all. The Birth certificate I have for William Thomas Thompson shows his Mother as Charlotte Thompson and his father as Thomas Allwork [clearly NOT married] Charlotte Thompson married Charles Bennett in 1857.

It's too much of a coincidence for the Thomset death not to be him.  He was aged 23 and the death was registered in the March qtr which fits with a January burial.

The registration district is correct as he was living in the Romney Marsh RD in 1871
