Looking for information: John Anderson, son of George Weir Anderson
« on: Wednesday 01 March 17 20:55 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for some information on my great grandfather John Anderson.

I have acquired a copy of John's marriage certificate as well as his daughter's (my grandmother's) birth certificate.

This has provided me with the following information:

John Anderson son of George Weir Anderson married Sarah Nimmer Hood Stewart on the 5th of October 1939 in the District of Blythswood in the Burgh of Glasgow. He was 27 years old at the time. John's profession was listed as 'Leading aircraftsmen, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as 'Royal Air Force Station, Montrose'.

On the 10th of September 1944 John and Sarah had a baby who they named Doreen Anderson. At this time, John's occupation was listed as a 'Sergeant, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as '169 Shamrock Street, Glasgow', which I believe were barracks.

I am particularly interested in finding out when/where John was born and when/where he passed away. I would like to request John's service records but do not have a service number for John.

Unfortunately, neither my great grandparents or grandparents are living and my mum has no information to assist us.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Do you know when and where Sarah died?

What sites have you used to try and find more information?

If he was 27 in 1939 at time of marriage then he should be born in 1911 or 1912.

However, there is this birth for consideration:
John Weir Anderson  1913   456/28  Scoonie Fife   (from Scotlandspeople)

This information was given by a previous search on a different website :

George W. Anderson and Jean Weir married 27 Oct 1910 in Blythswood Glasgow. He was 21, the son of John and Margaret (Murray) Anderson. George Weir Anderson was born 15 Jun 1889 in Enzie, Banffshire, Scotland. He died 4 Aug 1944, Chicago, IL. He may have left a will that would prove John's relationship.

According to his naturalisation records George arrived in USA in 1918 and applied on 13th January 1942.

George married Lillian on June 19th 1924.  She was born in Chicago on January 7th 1898

He has a son John, living in Scotland, born March 3rd 1910 in Canada (and daughter Constance born 1930).

So either the wrong man, or he has his son's place and date of birth wrong.

Added:
George W and Lillian M Anderson are shown on 1930 census in Chicago, claims arrived USA in 1916.

Hi Chempat,

Thank you for you all your very helpful replies.

Having looked at John and Sarah's marriage certificate, I can see that John's mother is Jean Weir.

You've given me a lot to go on and I'm starting to put together a family tree to collate all the information I've gathered.

Thank you again :)

Scotlandspeople has this death, if you want to apply for more information:

John Weir Anderson  died age 86 in 1999  at Buckhaven  424/237 (or apply for that birth certificate?)
