William AYLWARD Jnr., Born 01/04/1829,
« on: Thursday 02 March 17 17:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

William AYLWARD Jnr., born 01/04/1829, parents William, a Bricklayer, and Elizabeth AYLWARD, two sisters Elizabeth (born 1816) and Mary (1821), all living in 1841 in St. Saviour, Southwark.

William AYLWARD Jnr. was sentenced at the Old Bailey on 12/12/1842 to transportation for 10 years for robbing his father, was eventually sent to Parkhurst Prison and then transferred to the Philanthropic Institute where he remained until February 1847 when released on "parole"   He was NOT transported.   Last known sighting in April 1848 working with his father as a bricklayer and no trace from that point onwards ???

NB:   He was tried as AYLEWOOD, and held at Parkhurst as AYLEWOOD, but the Philanthropic Institute (now the Royal Philanthropic Society) used his correct name AYLWARD.

Can anyone throw light on his whereabouts after 1848 please.

Thank You

Just a wild thought.

Presumably you haven't found him on the 1851 census or an obvious death registration.  So it might be worth a look on the 1851 census under his mother's maiden name (or if he had a middle name that could double as a surname) just in case he changed his name to hide his past.

Have you ruled out the following marriage?

4 Nov 1849, Islington

Charlotte Archer, Minor, Spinster of Clarence terrace.  Father: Henry Archer, Labourer
Wit: M Kilby (?), Ann Aylward (her mark)

Amended: In 1851 his age is transcribed as 28 & Charlotte 17, but his age is written rather strangely so Im not sure
MORGAN: Glamorgan, Durham, Ohio. DAVIS/DAVIES/DAVID: Glamorgan, Ohio.  GIBSON: Leicestershire, Durham, North Yorkshire.  RAIN/RAINE: Cumberland.  TAYLOR: North Yorks. BOURDAS: North Yorks. JEFFREYS: Worcestershire & Northumberland. FORBES: Berwickshire, CHEESMOND: Durham/Northumberland. WINTER: Durham/Northumberland. SNOWBALL: Durham.

Looking again I think 28 is the correct age so he is possibly the William aged 20 in 1841, living at 33 Bond Street in the same household as William aged 50 - another Bricklayer.

MORGAN: Glamorgan, Durham, Ohio. DAVIS/DAVIES/DAVID: Glamorgan, Ohio.  GIBSON: Leicestershire, Durham, North Yorkshire.  RAIN/RAINE: Cumberland.  TAYLOR: North Yorks. BOURDAS: North Yorks. JEFFREYS: Worcestershire & Northumberland. FORBES: Berwickshire, CHEESMOND: Durham/Northumberland. WINTER: Durham/Northumberland. SNOWBALL: Durham.

It may help to know that our Aylward family in Kent were sometimes recorded as Alyward or Allard

Hello,

Jomot and I exchanged PM information earlier and the end result is some confusion as to William AYLWARD's actual  identity.    It is known that in 1841 the family were living in St. Saviour, Southwark, but in 1846 or thereabouts the family were now located at 6 Essex Street, HOXTON (details extracted from a primary source).

I wonder if this extra "HOXTON" detail can help to establish a verifiable profie for William AYLWARD ??? ::)

For the moment,

Hello,
You write:

Where was he in 1848?

Hoxton is close to Islington where the marriage to Charlotte Archer took place.

Where were the rest of his family in 1851?

Heywood
