How can you lose someone called Zachariah Boswell...?
« on: Friday 03 March 17 08:45 GMT (UK) »
.. I exclaimed, frustated one day

A colleague took up the challenge, did a bit of Googling and so I first came across the fascinating area of Gypsy Genealogy

However, I confess to being a bit swamped (the Boswell thread on Rootschat is now up to 47 pages!) and don't really know where to start

Father is Isaiah Boswell, mother is Elizabeth King (m 1884 St John, Chelsea, wit: Amos & Jane Lee)

I have 1871 for Isaiah is this family in Travelling Caravan, Kensal Wharf, Kensal Green RG10/91/22/37/187

James Boswell,Head,Wid,M,49,Licensed Hawker,Worcestershire, England,
Racheal Boswell,Daughter,Unm,F,13,,Notting Hill, London, England,
Maria Boswell,Daughter,Unm,F,11,,Southwark, London, England,
Isaiah Boswell,Nephew,Unm,M,27,,Peterborough, Huntingdonshire, England,
Charlotte Boswell,Niece,Unm,F,12,,Notting Hill, London, England,
Jeanette Boswell,Niece,Unm,F,5,,Notting Hill, London, England,

1881 11 Admiral Terrace, Kensington RG11/42/38/31/784

Isaiah Boswell,Head,Mar,M,35,Builder's Labourer,Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England,
Elizabeth Boswell,Wife,Unm,F,27,Laundress,Hayes, Middlesex, England,
Zachariah Boswell,Son,Unm,M,7,,Marden, Kent, England,
Albert Boswell,Son,Unm,M,5,,Kensal Green, Middlesex, England,
Eleanor Boswell,Daughter,Unm,F,2,,Kensal Green, Middlesex, England,

That's my only sighting of Zachariah

Elizabeth goes on to

1891 living with a William Boswell of Marylebone in Hazelwood Crescent, Kensington RG12/29/78/7/51
while Isaiah is still at Admirals Terrace RG12/24/67/28/844. I have Isaiah dying in 1899 whereupon

Elizabeth marries James Henry Long in 1900 (d 1901)
marries Thomas Frederick Richards in 1902 (d 1909)

Other children are Thomas b1872 Marden, Albert b1876 Kensal Green and Eleanor b1879 Kensal Green

Elizabeth dies in 1912

1901 Census 26a, Edenham Street, Kensington RG13/30/70/45/223
1911 Census 23, Golborne Gardens, Kensal Green RG14/2/192

I have Elizabeth's family going back a few generations and do have info on Thomas, Albert & Eleanor's later families so I'm interested in what happened to Zachariah (I do have a suspicion that Zachariah might be Thomas, but confirmation would be great) and the background to Isaiah Boswell's family

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Steve

Have you checked for a death for him?  Maybe he died before the next census.

Ah yes I take your point about him possibly turning into Thomas as the age and place of birth fit nicely.

Steve,

Have you tried leaving forename blank as there are some ominous transcriptions which may be the case?

I guess this is why the textbooks say that you should make a note of every search you make  :)

As I haven't, I can't guarantee I've done that, though I would in general when searching censuses, so I'll have to give that another go
