Family members from Hedon

Hello I am trying to trace any living relatives and find out about my family history. My dad was born in Hedon in 1947 to John Henry William Rate and Audrey Rate (Pinder) .My great grandma was called Gertrude Rate (Addey) and my great grandad nickname was Curly. My dad was brought up in Wooden bungalows. Any information would be hugely appreciated.Thsnks

was Gertrude's year of birth around 1885, and "Curly" aka John H around 1888?
They appear to have wed in 1918.

Have you got any aunts or uncles, so that we do not duplicate information that you know about?

Have you used free bmd, or Ancestry or FindMyPast or any other website to try and trace back your relatives?

My dad was an only child and his father passed away when he was 18 I think my grandad was 42 when he passed . My dad left the area after that so I only met my nana Audrey a handfull of times and I have no idea whether or not she is still alive. I am in contact with my dads cousin on my grandads side but other than that I know very little.

There are 3 kids b to Hallett with MMN of Rate in Yeovil.

So, 'Curly' was John Henry Rate born 18/6/1889 Crowland, Lincolnshire who died 23/4/1957 Hull (married to Gertrude Addey in 1918  - your grandfather had an older sister Blanche Elizabeth A J Rate born in 1919 (she married a Hallett and her death entry was in 1975 Yeovil, Somerset giving a birth date of 19/11/1919).  They appear to have had 3 children born in Somerset who you can find on FreeBMD.

John Henry Rate was the son of another John Henry Rate bc.1870 Crowland, Lincs. who married Annie Jane Fish in Mar.qtr. 1889 Peterborough Regn. District.   He was their only child.

Can you tell us anything about Audrey Pinder - having difficulty pinpointing who she was.

Thank you! I don't know very much at all other than Audrey and my grandad separated when my dad was very very young and my dad stayed with his dad who I believe remarried. To be honest I don't know where to start looking for information. I think Audrey may have remarried at some point too but my dad lost touch with her til he was about 38.

Annette has pointed out that Blanche Rate married Mr Hallett.

You can then look for their children i.e. people born with Surname Hallet and mother's maiden name Rate on freebmd.
There are 3 births showing on free bmd in Yeovil between 1946 and 1954.

If you then register with GenesReunited you will find that the 3 children are in various member's trees on there.  You can then try and contact the tree owners for more information, and possible find the living descendents.

Audrey Pinder married in Hull in 1945.

There is a birth in Sculcoates in June quarter 1923 which could be her, but if you got her wedding certificate to your grandfather then that would have her Father's name to help to identify her.

If that Sculcoates birth is correct, her parents were Walter and Elsie Pinder, and she had a brother.

If you look for Walter and Elsie Pinder in Hull on 1939 census (just search for both their names without specifying any birth years, living in Hull, you should find them in a household with 2 closed records.

This would imply that their 2 children i.e. Audrey and her sibling may still be alive.

There is a man with the same name as Audrey's brother living in Hull on the 2016 ER's (but no age specified)
