Two heads in one house?

a question which I expect can be answered fairly easily, if you have the time.

Someone passed me this data for this ancestor:

..... one house, two heads!

I just had a look at the data for Mary Burden in Familysearch and see that only she and her daughter Ann are listed. Looks to me as though the other researcher has somehow combined two households into one. But rather than dispose of the Pierce family immediately I wanted to check with the experts (you) in case something weird is happening at this house. Is it a transcription error? Maybe these are two families living in one house, or as neighbours in a divided cottage?

The census shows two separate households in that property with a  \   between Ann Purnell & Mary Pierce.  Properties are separated from each other with \\  and any separate households within are separated by  \
