Whats her maiden name
« on: Wednesday 08 March 17 15:30 GMT (UK) »
I have a query that will be like looking for a needle in a haystack but knowing Rootschat from old I have hopes that someone can help me.
I have ancestors from Ireland who moved to Liverpool. John Golding born about 1812 and his wife Esther. On the census in Liverpool they are down as being born in Ireland but it doesn't say where. They had two children Catherine and Thomas and on one of the census it says that Thomas was from County Mayo so I am assuming that the parents were as well, but I cant find a marriage and I cant find Esther.
I think they moved just before 1851.
Many thanks
Cecie

When were the children born?  Is it possible to get a birth for one of them to give you the name for Esther.

Any idea who the 1 year old boarder in 1861 was - Thomas Rigby?

He could be a clue if he was related in some way.

The children were both born in Ireland according to the Liverpool census Catherine is just listed as being born in Ireland but Thomas is down as being born in County Mayo on one of the census lists.
I hadn't noticed anyone called Thomas Rigby, I will have to have a look.
Many thanks

Had a quick look at the census, he is only a young child isn't he? I'm afraid I don't know who he is.

I have just had a look at the 1881 census and Thomas is married and staying with him and his wife is a lady called Sarah Ryder and listed as 'aunt'. There is also a nephew called John Golding but I know this is Catherine's illegitimate son, so I don't think he is connected to Sarah Ryder.

Yes there are a few mis-spellings through different things some spelt as Goulding or Goulden but it is actually Golding.

Sorry got the wrong name, I thought the 1 year old and the aunt had the same surname  :-[

The aunt is a good clue though - if we can find out whose sister she was or who she was married to.
