Burchell in Bristol

Hi ,

I want to find out more about my ancestor Elizabeth Rhoda BURCHELL who was born in Bristol, Gloucestershire in year 1838. Her father was George Burchell *where? When? . Her mother is unknown and i want to know more about her . Her father George was a M.S Soldier but what did a M.S Soldier ? And what is it?   I hope someone can help me to find out more about the Burchell family from Bristol. Maybe birth date/place of Father and mother and maybe Grandparents. Have a nice day!

Can you tell us what you have found already? Did she marry - is that where you got her fathers name and occupation from?  Have you found her on any censuses?  Was that where you got her year and place of birth from, if not what was your source?

I cant see a birth for an Elizabeth Rhoda Burchell in 1838, but it was very early days of Civil registration and many got missed.

FreeBMD has a Jane Elizabeth BURCHILL born Keynsham district Dec qtr 1838 vol 11 p124 who might be your Elizabeth (although I wouldn't bet on it!).

OK I see she married in 1857 in Stepney to George Langbridge
And later census gives pob as Bristol with age to indicate a birth around 1838.

Father is George, hard to make out exactly what is says for his occupation but it does look like "soldier with M S"

Ancestry is a commercial site, not a source!

The marriage cert I mentioned, and the census I mentioned would be the sources that the person who helped you would have seen.  They are the things you need to record as you research. And what will help you get further back (or help anyone who is trying to help you, though you will find it much more fun to do it yourself!)

You must know something about the family if this is your family that you are tracing back .....  was one of her children your ancestor?  If so you can tell us about them and we can work back from that.

Okay , Yes they had Edward , Emily, Joseph, George , and my GGG-grandmother Caroline Langbridge who was born 1867 in Camberwell, London. She married 1 Apr 1888 • Battersea St George the Martyr, England Walter Thomas Smith *1868 in Kentish Town, London (know his ancestors ).
