The England & Wales Death Index, 2007-2015 is far from comprehensive!
It is a compiled index from various sources, but NOT the GRO Indexes :-\

It covers about 55% of the deaths during those years.

I seem to remember that it is compiled from newspaper obituaries?

The Scotland and Northern Ireland Death Index, 1989-2015 is similar.
It covers about 45% of the total deaths in this period.

I have just had a look on the England & Wales Death Indexes for three people I know have died between 2007-2015 and not one of them are showing up, how disappointing. :(

I wonder where the information does come from.   ::)
I have a relative who died in 2015, she appears with her full names, age, plus death date and town where she died.  There was no obituary in the papers, she appears on the probate calendar but there is no age showing though they could have got the other info from there.

There was a thread on RootsChat when these records first came out? (Can't find it, though!)

As far as I can remember, the records came from:
Newspaper obituaries (print and online)
Undertaker's records
Probate Calendar?

Original data: GreyPower Deceased Data. compiled by Wilmington Millennium, West Yorkshire.

One of the products from Wilmington is Mortascreen and Halo "the UK's leading deceased data files used for direct mail suppression, mortality fraud and identity theft prevention".

The data apparently comes from funeral directors and obituaries. It is then packaged for marketing companies to ensure they don't contact the deceased.

Thanks KG.  From that list I can only assume the undertaker has given the information.
