help needed 1900's mansfield mcgrath confused.
« on: Monday 13 March 17 21:12 GMT (UK) »
Evening, I am trying to trace back through my nannas family. Here's what I have.. Born Ellie Mansfield to Thomas and Bridget Mansfield 18 December 1925 ringville dungarvan Waterford birth registered march 1926. Nannas mum Bridget maiden name was McGrath I can find there marriage certificate 1910 and they were on 1912 cenus togther in ardmore brigett age 23 and Thomas 25 on cenus. There is so much I want to know but logic says start with nannas brothers and sister, I know she had a big family and have found some details of alice Mansfield born 1926 brother Micheal born 1917 and Catherine born 1919. I believe there was a sister shiela that died in a house fire. I have Thomas (my nannas dad) dying 1951. They lived on a farm and nannas left Ireland around 1943-1950 as she married my grandad john dunnill in Northumberland south (uk) and had my dad in 1951.

LINK to 1911 census return for reference

I would agree with dathai that you need to relook at facts as there was at least three Thomas MANSFIELDs in the Dungarvan area around the 1910-1930 period

One was married to Catherine KIELY and another to Nora FRAHER

If you are 100% that Ellie's mother's maiden name was McGRATH then there are at least two more in the family to add to those mentioned already

1 1911 Margaret (Birth & Baptism records)
2 1914 Brigid (Birth & Baptism records)
3 1915 Mary  (Birth & Baptism records)
4 1916 Alice (Birth & Baptism records)
5 1917 Michael (Birth record)
6 1918 Martin (Baptism record)
7 1919 Catherine (Birth record)
8 1921 William (Baptism record) died aged 3 weeks LINK
9 1925 Ellie (Birth record)
10 1930 Michael (Birth record)
11 1932 Julia possibly the Sheila referred to by word of mouth family history (Birth record)

wow thank you everyone so good of you all.

i'm still really confused how my nanna born ellie mansfield could marry my grandad as ellen mansfield and become ellen dunnill.

somewhere between 1925 birth of ellie before she got married as ellen in 1951 she must have changed her name?

also why would a young irish women come to london alone?

If you haven't got her marriage cert yet how do you know who her father is?

As dathai and My Luck said you need to check who her father is on the marriage cert, and his job to be sure you are looking at the correct family.

English certs have to be ordered for the GRO in the UK.
