Marriage-Alexander Dale & SarahAnne Crossett
« on: Tuesday 14 March 17 07:25 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any help on tracing the births and marriage of: Alexander DALE (Ballymulderg) and Sarah Anne CROSSETT (Killyfaddy) County Derry, Northern Ireland in 1850 - 1870. They later moved to Dumbarton, Scotland? Have tried civil records as both were Presbyterian (I think!)  ;)
Also same records of John BOYLE (Kilcoman, Asdee, Co Kerry, IRE) and Margaret Elizabeth CROMPTON, IRE both born mid 1830's? Finding RC parish records difficult to decipher. ;) Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Wallace, Stevenson, Brown - Ayrshire, Scotland
Spells - Essex, and Austin - Sussex, England
Boyle, Bermingham - Ireland
Dale - Derry, N Ireland
Collenette - Catel, Guernsey, Channel Isles.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

From memory I've seen lots online about Alexander Dale & Sarah Anne Crossett but quite a bit of it might be incoreect so be careful!

Staring with the geography- both in Magherafelt Poor Law Union & Civil Registration District
Ballymulderg Beg & Ballymulderg More (Artrea Civil Parish)-
https://www.townlands.ie/search/?q=ballymulderg
Killyfaddy (Magherafelt Civil Parish)-
https://www.townlands.ie/londonderry/loughinsholin/magherafelt/killyfaddy/

Alexander Dale, son of John, married 1853 Sarah Ann Crossett, daughter of Samuel

Marriage is not yet free to view online but will eventually be added (Irish Genealogy) but you can use GRONI's website, register, purchase a few credits then view the certificate online now if you wish.

Since civil registration of births didn't start until 1864 (non-Catholic marriages started from 1845) then there will be no birth certificates for Alexander, Sarah Ann & any children born in Ireland before 1864.

Un-named daughter born 1864 Belnasollus (Ballynasollas) townland-

Daughter Sarah Matilda born 1867 Montobber (Muntober) townland- Alexander given as weaver

Sincere thanks for pointing me in the 'right' direction to locate my great, great grandparents Alexander DALE and Sarah Anne CROSSETT. This was my first dip into Irish genealogy.

Are the records in County Derry any easier? I am also trying to find records of John BOYLE and his wife ? Margaret DRENNAN from ?Kilcolman, Asdee, County Kerry.  ;)

Many of the same resources can be used all over Ireland. The one difference has to do with religion- registration of R.C. marriages began in 1864 (instead of 1845) but many Catholic Parish registers are now free online, many Church of Ireland records were destroyed in 1920s (ironically after being sent to Dublin for safe-keeping).

To find townlands I use this site as you can search for part of a word, parish etc. It shows the Poor Law Union (PLU) which is usually the same as the registration district-
http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/
This site shows mapts of parishes, townland, etc.-
https://www.townlands.ie/search/?q=
This is the civil parish of Kilcolman in Co. Kerry-
https://www.townlands.ie/kerry/kilcolman/

Catholic Parish Registers online (free)- http://registers.nli.ie/
If you don't find what you are looking for click the link for Irish Ancestors on parish page towards bottom of page which takes you to this site which shows what might be available from other sources (some of which might be subscription or pay-per-view)- a random example here-
https://www.johngrenham.com/records/rc_church.php?churchid=0673&parish=Kilcummin

Some Kerry records are also (again free) here-
https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

Best to start another topic for your Kerry ancestors on the KERRY board to prevent everything getting muddled  ;)
