Ordering an Irish Marriage Certificate 1873 Help please
« on: Tuesday 14 March 17 17:20 GMT (UK) »
I have found a reference for a marriage in 1873 and am hoping to order a marriage certificate.

The record looks like this -

Newport, Ireland Registration Quarter and Year 1873 Registration District Newport Volume Number 19 Page Number 175

I have the people's names as well.

Am I correct in thinking it will cost 20 euro, seems alot?  What website should I use?

Any other help very welcome please.

To get an actual copy of the cert does cost 20 Euro, but all you need for family history purposes is a photocopy sent by email ,which cost me 4 euro last time I ordered one.

It should also eventually be free via www.irishgenealogy.ie under their Civil Index tab section, but at moment it hasn't been digitised.

William McNally to Elizabeth Sheridan it looks to be.

If it is this couple, the registration entries for birth of their children have been digitised and are free to view via same site.

Thank you everyone for your answers!  Yes that is the couple.  Would the email option include details like the name of father of bride and groom and maybe where they lived?  To continue with my tree I need their fathers' names.

It would be splendid if it only cost 4 euro to get this information.  :)

Yes, you'll get that info - the 4€ option is just a relatively poor but clear photocopy without any of the certificate stuff; it's called a research copy & can't be used for any identity/legal purposes.

A marriage certificate will contain residences of bride and groom AT THE TIME OF THE MARRIAGE and should also include names & occupations of both fathers. See here-

Hi aghadowey

OOps I should have searched more fully!   :-[

Good point about the residence at time of marriage.  It's a shame it doesn't include where they were born as well.

Thank you
