Kennard or Kinnaird in Antrim
« on: Tuesday 14 March 17 17:35 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find info about my great grandfather. My grandmother was Alice Kennard, born in New Jersey, USA. Her father was Hugh Kinnaird from Antrim, born either 1864 or 1867 in Dramaul (?) Antrim. Date of death unknown, but he emigrated to the USA. His father may have been Benjamin Kinnaird, also of Antrim (1830-1897), who was married to Alice Kennedy (1843-1906).
Any information with respect to any of these people is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Probate of the Will of Benjamin Kinnard late of Magherabeg County Antrim Farmer who died 5 January 1897 granted at Belfast to John M'Canee and Josias Curry both of Magherabeg Farmers. Will dated 2 Nov.1893 mentions daughter Sarah Ramsey, son John, daughter Mrs. Nancy Millar, 'Alice Kennedy'.

You can see the wording of his Will online (put 'kin' for surname and 'ben' for first name)-

Looks like Sarah Ramsey also named a son Benjamin-

You are the best!
In the will, I see the reference to Alice Kennedy without mentioning a relationship, but presumably she's his wife. I also see the reference to Sarah Ramsey staying in the house.
On the census forms, I see that the house the Ramsey's lived in was owned by Jn. (John) Ramsey, so that is consistent with the will.
There is no mention of Hugh Kennedy, but presumably that is because he already left for the US.
This has been extremely helpful. Now perhaps I can use this info to trace Benjamin and Alice's forebears!
Thank you once again!
Regards,
