The abode of Samuel George Relf (who died at Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton on 27.10.1931) was 6 Eshton Rd, Eastbourne - so not an obvious match with Samuel & Sarah Relf of Brighton.

They seem to have registered Dorothy's sister's birth, but I can't find Dorothy at all!

She was the daughter of Walter Adams 1856-1919 and Sarah Elizabeth White 1882-1941
Her mother left a will.
Adams Sarah Elizabeth of 32 Cheltenham street Swindon Wiltshire widow died 25 February 1941
Probate Llandudno 27 June (1941) to Walter William Adams and Frederick Stuart Adams

If you can, it might be worthwhile getting hold of a copy and seeing if daughter Dorothy gets a mention

If they were still in Wiltshire, I wonder why Dorothy returned to Brighton - she can't have had any memories of the town, as they left when she was about a couple of years old?

Thank you all for your diligent research. I must admit it does seem strange that she married in Brighton and was 34 at that time but we never know how these things work out. As I can find no other marriage or death for her, I don't know what else to think?

Hi,

[ Walter Adams 1856-1919 and Sarah Elizabeth White 1882-1941; )  Perhaps you meant 1862?

Have you eliminated the following:

Dorothy was born before the marriage and was registered under her mother's name.
Dorothy died before marriage with death recorded as Dorothy Adams.

Jann

Sarah was born 2 Jun 1862 and she married Walter Adams Q4 1881 Eastbourne, so Dorothy was born well after their marriage.

I've searched under all the combinations I can think of, including just using first names. I wonder if they moved from Brighton to Wiltshire just after her birth and they forgot she hadn't been registered? They appear to have registered all the other children, including her older brother Walter who was born in Eastbourne.

So it's pretty well established that for some unknown reason Dorothy's birth was never registered.

That leaves the missing death record.  Seems like the only stone left unturned is her mother's will which might have some clues - if not answers.

Good luck!
