St Peter Allendale Baptisms REED Look up Please
« on: Saturday 18 March 17 11:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for any information in 3 baptism entries on the same day

All baptised on 21 September 1806 at St Peter and Allenheads Chapelries, Allendale and sons of Thomas REED and Mary SHIELDS/SHIELD

John REED was born 17 November 1800

James REED was born 15 April 1803

Joseph REED was born 17 October 1805

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Best wishes,

Carole

I've turned up the 3 baptisms on FindMyPast as transcriptions of the Bishops Transcripts, but no images available. They don't tell us anything you don't already have  :(  What else were you hoping to find?

Hi Stitch  :)

Many thanks for your quick reply.

I was hoping for a bit more information about the family - 1st son etc, parents native of wherever, and whereabouts in Allendale they were living.

Until the mid-1830's Allendale was part of the Peculiar of Hexhamshire, and in the Diocese of York. So it is possible that the baptism entries for Allendale might not be the same as those one would expect to find in the Diocese of Durham at the same time  :-\ I can't yet find any online coverage for the time period in which you are interested  :-\

This situation with the Diocese of York has come up on here recently.  Sadly you don't get the same kind of detail as we are used to from the Barrington years in the Diocese of Durham.

I can look at the PRs on Wednesday at Woodhorn if you wish

What's there often depends on the vicar, too. I wonder where the actual registers are now?

Joseph actually appears to have been transcribed from the parish records, the other two from the bts.

According to TNA the actual registers are at the Northumberland Archives in Ashington

That is where Christine has offered to do the look-up, if the OP wishes. Reply #4  :)

Indeed. My screen hadn't refreshed when I hit "post". Still, I suspect the OP didn't mind a slight duplication of effort, since she didn't think it appropriate to rebuke me.

Thank you for the information Stitch :)

I hadn't realised that Allendale didn't include the extra details.
