Francis Stinchcomb(e) - a puzzle
« on: Monday 20 March 17 12:44 GMT (UK) »
I couldn't decide where to put this, England, Ireland, or anywhere else, so though this was the best place.

Francis Stinchcomb's birth was registered in Chipping Sodbury district in 1838, the son of George and Sarah (nee Worlock Pitt).  In 1841 and 1851 he is with George and Sarah and siblings, living in Hawkesbury, Gloucestershire.

1841 - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7MN-SVQ
1851 - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGBZ-L6B

There is another older Francis in the area at the time, and also a Frances, born a year earlier.

After 1861 I cannot find him, at least not in England

Ancestry has dangled a tantalising little hint in front of me, of a Francis Stinchcomb marrying a Honor O'Brien in Naas, Ireland in 1868 - father George Stinchcomb. I am wondering is it him, what was he doing there?

Even so, I still can't find a death for him either in England, Ireland or anywhere else in the world.  The Naas marriage might be a red herring - or equally not. The catholic parish register entries for Naas in December 1868 arent there - they stop in November. Although as the the Stinchcombs are dyed in the wool C of E I'm not entirely convinced the marriage would have been in the Catholic Church. I was ordering a few research copies from the GRO in Ireland this morning and am now kicking myself because I forgot to order this one!

Could anyone help?
Thanks,
Lisa

I hadn't, and wouldn't even have considered India! America, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, but not India.

Thank you for this, I shall follow it up.

Just throwing this up again (it’s been a while!).

I am now wondering about Francis’ wife, Honor,  nee O’Brien. According to the marriage cert on irishgenealogy.ie, her father was Patrick O’Brien, a soldier. Honor is of full age.

Would anyone be able to turn anything up about Honor?

Thanks
Lisa
