John Valleer Apprentice Carpenter Frensham Surrrey
« on: Friday 24 March 17 18:52 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone please help
My great great grandfather was James Waller, Carpenter who died in Brighton in 1851.
I believe he may have come from Surrey where he married an Elizabeth Milton.  As he died before the census was taken, I do not know where he was born !

I am trying to trace the parents of a John Valler (could be Voller or Waller).  John is recorded
as an apprentice carpenter at Frensham in 1791 when hIis indenture commenced.

I cannot seem to find his family or where he lived

Many thanks.

What is the connection between James Waller who married Elizabeth Milton and John Valler?

Is the James who married Elizabeth the right one?

Do you have him in 1841?

Thanks heywood

I know that James and Elizabeth were married at Godalming.  Elizabeth had two brothers Edward and Thomas Milton who were also in Brighton in 1841, as was their sister Eliza and I believe James Elizabeth's daughter Harriett.  (found all them in the censuses)
I know that James died in 1851, his death certificate states age 45 but I cannot be sure of that as the person reporting the death was not a relative, maybe just a neighbour or friend.
So I have been investigating all James Wallers born around 1800 in Surrey, all to no avail at the moment !  Have managed to rule a few out by later census entries.
Waller/Valler/Voller also adds to the confusion

As James was a carpenter, I wondered if his father was too, but that's not necessarily the case.

Of course, there is the possibiity that James is from Brighton, met Elizabeth there, but why married in Godalming ?

The 1851 census shows that Elizabeth was from Surrey.  Couples usually married in the bride's parish.
