Margaret Maria Berry, Searching for Living Relatives
« on: Monday 27 March 17 17:37 BST (UK) »
Hello. My Grandmother is Margaret Maria Berry, b. 1906 County Mayo, Ire. Her father was Michael Berry, her Mother Katharine Berry. I believe Katharine was a McGovern. Her mother may have been Bridget Mc Govern. Michael and Katharine had 12 children. (*) Are there any relatives in Ireland, and perhaps England that I may have? I would love to hear from you.

Welcome to rootschat, Shawn.

We are not meant to mention the names of living people on here.

Have you got an approximate birth year for Stella?  Her marriage looks to be 1951 in Manchester.

This could be her birth and death:

Stella Mary Berry born September quarter 1924 in Westport

Stella Mary Heaney born 22nd July 1924, died in January 1996 in Manchester,

(though she was only Stella Berry on marriage to Mr Heaney in Manchester.)

Grant only, in probate index. No children showing on free bmd.

Hi Chempat,

I was waiting to hear from Shawn to see if Stella is still alive, as it is against RootsChat rules to publish such sensitive information online.

Regards

Sarah

Owen Stephen Berry born 23 December 1908, of Newport County Mayo arrived in USA in 1927 and applied for citizenship in 1929, living in Scranton, Pennsylvania, unmarried.

When Owen marries in 12th August 1936 in Lackawanna, Pennsylvania he gives his parents as Michael Berry and Catherine McGovern, (married Jane Hughes.)

I assumed Stella was deceased, as she stopped writing and sending cards years ago. I sadly never met her, and she never met my Grandmother. She used to write Gram "to the Sister I never met".
Owen did live in Scranton, on Farr St. Gram called him Oney, or Onie.
I remember Owen. He was tall, with curly black hair and fair skin, like my Gram. A very handsome man. He had a stroke, and couldn't talk in later years. After Gram passed we went to visit. He recognized me, grabbed me in a big hug and cried. They were both very family oriented. Gram always introduced us "these are my people" and would then tell our names, and relationship to her. Thank you to all the info you have already given me. I thought Stella was born in 1924. I could be incorrect. My Gram sailed on the Cedric from Newport, Ire on about March or April 1924. Stella was born after she left for the US. Her mother was pregnant for Stella when she left. I would like to know where her parents and Grandparents were from, and about them, and Grams siblings. I do know 12 children in all. That's probably a lot of ancestors.

1911 census gives more details than in the above cut & paste. Clicking on Show all information gives number of years married, how many children born/living, etc.
In this case married 6 years, 4 children (all living)- which means another child wasn't in household on census night or the form has been filled out incorrectly-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Mayo/Newport__East/Chapel_Street/747600
clicking on other links for the household will give details of house, etc.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
